Happy Birthday America!!
Today is the birthday of the United States of America. To me, the 4th of July means celebrating the sacrifices made by the countless individuals who have sought, fought for, and won the freedoms that we enjoy today. Sometimes it seems that it is so easy to take those sacrifices for granted. After all, most of the population of America has lived with only the history books’ versions of what happened. Few are able to hear the first hand stories anymore.
When my son joined the Navy upon graduation from high school, he would tell me with pride, “I’m providing the blanket of security under which you sleep.” I think about that every time I see a member of the Armed Forces these days. I think that everyone of the men and women who have made the commitment to serve their country, to serve us, deserve to be thanked for the sacrifices that has entailed in their lives.
I plan to make it a practice to simply say “Thank you.” to every person in the military I see. Won’t you join me?
